Serving older Adults and their Families was the topic for the annual Summer Gathering hosted by Financial Service Group July 12-13, 2017.

The two-day workshop was facilitated by Erika Walker, CEO of Sage Wave Consulting which advises businesses on preparing to serve the growing aging population. Fee-only financial planners from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois used this exclusive opportunity  to learn from each other, share best practices, and actively engage in a relevant learning experience.

“The Gathering is a great way for a limited number of like-minded colleagues to come together to discuss topics that impact our clients,” said Michael Haubrich, president of Financial Service Group. “Our clients need us to be aware of and responsive to issues of their late life beyond their finances.”

Advisors participated in aging simulations, role playing, and frank discussions that helped them “experience” some of the health, cognative, and social issues of aging clients look and feel like. They also reviewed many resources that are avaialble to assist them in working with clients, their families and caregivers into and throughout the late life stage.

“There are a lot of options and decisions that aging adults have to deal with that go beyond traditional financial planning,” said Justus Morgan, also of Financial Service Group. “Having access to information about things like housing alternatives, the best ways to communicate, and emotional and cognative differences to look for helps us provide more complete life planning, not just financial planning for our clients.”

To further serve clients in this particular area, Mike Haubrich earned his Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)® designation, awarded by the Society of Certified Senior Advisors.
